How to remove coffee stains from a carpet
Coffee stains on a carpet are a common occurrence. This is especially true during the morning rush, when you are doing two things at once in order to get to work on time. Your reputation for punctuality at work may be spotless, but your carpet may not. A dark coffee stain on your carpet may look ugly and permanent, but it can be removed with little time and effort. If you to spill some coffee on a carpet, it is important to attack the stain as soon as possible. The longer it remains, the quicker it will absorb itself into the fabric and will end up being a permanent splotch on your once lovely looking carpet.
First of all remove part of the coffee stain with a clean white cloth. You should always use a white cloth because the dye in coloured fabrics can also stain a carpet. Next, you should use clean water with a clean cloth to blot away as much of the stain as possible. Always blot it and never scrub. Scrubbing away a stain can cause it to spread and push it deeper within the carpet. It can also wear away your carpet. When you gently blot your carpet stain make sure you do it from the outside inward to ensure the stain does not spread further.
If blotting the stain with water doesn’t work, there are other tried and tested methods. Cover the stain with baking soda or salt and let it sit for around half an hour. The baking soda will help absorb some of the coffee from the carpet. Then either vacuum the spot or clean with a cloth.
For another alternative, you can use club soda or ginger ale to remove the stain. Sprinkle evenly over the coffee mark, and use a clean cloth with water to blot the stain away.
Vinegar can also be used. Mix together 1/3 cup of white vinegar and 2/3 cup of slightly warm water. Use a clean cloth with this solution and gently dab the coffee carpet stain, until you see the disappearing effects of this solution. Once complete, blot the leftover vinegar with a damp cloth. And hey presto! You have a clean carpet once again.
