Clean Your Kitchen in Time for Christmas

9th Nov 11

With Christmas fast approaching, you might be spending most of your time in the kitchen preparing massive meals for hungry family and friends. Working in a clean kitchen will serve up better and fresher food. But how to do this? Well, all you need to do is follow these easy steps.

The refrigerator is where we store most of our food, which makes it one of the most important places in the home. But without proper care and attention, the fridge can give off some nasty smells and affect the quality of your food. It doesn’t have to be this way. So snap on those rubber gloves and vigorously attack the problem. You can start by taking out all the racks and draws and spray them with a wild bleach solution. Make sure you do it outside because you don’t want any toxic odors attaching itself to food. Once outside, lay the drawers and racks on a piece of clean tarpaulin and spray them down with a hose to remove any food residue. Then spray it once again with the bleach solution and let it soak while you clean the rest of the fridge inside.

When you get to work inside the fridge, wear rubber gloves while using a strong cleaning solution of detergent and water. Don’t leave any space untouched. You want the whole fridge looking like new. This is no easy task, so once you have done this, take a break and allow the solution to soak for five or ten minutes. Once you have finished your cuppa, use a green backed sponge to scrub inside the fridge. Really scrub everywhere until the sponge is worn out. When you have worn it out, use a clean cloth or some paper towels to soak up the excess water. Dry the inside with a cloth, preferably lint resistant, and begin to air out the fridge by leaving its door open. This process can be sped up by leaving the kitchen door open, giving the fridge the chance to begin sparkling and for you to have another cup of tea. But it isn\'t over yet! Go back to the racks and drawers on the tarpaulin outside and hose them down with water, washing away the cleaning solution used earlier. Wipe away any pieces of leftover grime with a sponge or cloth. Once you have done that, you can start assembling the racks back into the fridge. And – hey presto! – you have a fridge smelling and looking fresh. And ready in time to stock up on those mince pies and Turkeys.
